The Motofestival 2022 will be postponed by one year to 2023. The planning uncertainties in connection with the various Corona measures and their expected relaxations are to blame.
The worldwide Corona pandemic has left deep scars in the event industry, also in the motorcycle sector. Not only has the previous motorcycle show "Swiss-Moto" in Zurich been abandoned and replaced by the new format "Motofestival" in Bern, but now this has to be postponed due to the Corona pandemic. Really annoying.
The organizer, Bernexpo Groupe, comments in the following press release as follows:
Bern, January 31, 2022 - BERNEXPO GROUPE, in close exchange with the importers' association motosuisse, has decided to postpone the motofestival until 2023. In view of the expected relaxation steps, the organizers have reached an agreement with the
Decision so far waited to enable the motorcycle and scooter community this major event. Lack of planning certainty and scheduling constraints have in the meantime led to a number of cancellations by exhibitors.
which no longer allow a successful festival to be held. The critical mass required for all participants is no longer given on the supply side.
The motofestival would have been staged on the BERNEXPO grounds from March 3 to 6, 2022. With the postponement, BERNEXPO GROUPE is creating clarity and planning security for exhibitors. Tom Winter, CEO of BERNEXPO GROUPE, explains: "Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have been committed to staging any events whenever possible. Of course, we have been looking forward to the festival enormously and working hard towards it. But equally, it is our duty to create optimal conditions for visitors, exhibitors and partners." He is complemented by Anna Wellmeyer, Division Manager B2C Platforms at BERNEXPO GROUPE: "We want to offer our visitors a carefree festival experience and our exhibitors an event where profitability can be guaranteed." Jörg Bucher, President of the Swiss Motorcycle and Scooter Importers Association motosuisse, also greatly regrets the postponement: "It is imperative that our exhibitors have planning security for the intensive preparatory work with the corresponding financial expenses. With the postponement, the industry is now unfortunately missing an important start event in the motorcycle season and, with the new festival concept of BERNEXPO, also a start to a rocking spring. But postponed is not canceled. We are already going full throttle with the planning of the motofestival from February 16 to 19, 2023!" Wellmeyer adds, "The approximately 11,500 square meters sold for 2022 and the clear presence of all the major brands have shown us that we have met the industry's expectations with our festival."
Anticipation of relaxations and return of BEA
In recent months, the BERNEXPO GROUPE has proven, among other things with popular public formats such as HeroFest or the Suisse Caravan Salon, that events can be held safely and successfully even in Covid times. The company expects regulations to be relaxed and is optimistic about holding their formats from spring onwards. The top priority is to hold the BEA from April 29 to May 8, 2022. "The BEA is an integral part of Bern's event agenda and eminently important for the capital - accordingly, we are doing everything we can to ensure that the popular spring fair is a complete success again this year," explains Winter.
